Green Mobility

Electric Bike Illustration

I am so pleased to share an animated illustration I made for Barcelona bike brand Brost, whose foldable electric bikes offer a new "green mobility" for greener living. Travelling up to 40km daily at zero emissions and zero cost, the electric bikes provide an efficient, alternative mode of transport that is safe, sustainable and ultimately enjoyable. Equipped with pedal-assist, it's the bike that helps you uphill, because let's face it, nobody wants to show up sweaty at meetings and engagements.

Going green can be fashionable. But at its core, it must be sensible. Enjoy the ride!

August is Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa or "National Language Month" in the Philippines. Begun officially in 1997, the annual national celebration is pursuant to Proclamation 1041, signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos. Buwan ng Wika is celebrated mainly in schools, with activities such as Extemporaneous Speaking, speech choir, poetry writing, and the performance of folk song and dance, held all through the month.

Outside of schools, national and cultural organizations are likely to hold Buwan ng Wika activities, though fairly few. Myself being so far away from the Philippines, and so long out of school now, I've been very much untouched by the celebration I so thoroughly enjoyed as a student.

Letragram is my own contribution to the Filipino language, uniting via simple graphics, the letters of the alphabet with words they represent. B is for buko, U is for ulap, Y is for yelo. Join me as I complete the alphabet, and hopefully do one or two subsequent versions more.

Maligayang Buwan ng Wika! Happy Filipino Language Month!

"Façades" Wins Silver

It feels like coming full circle, to receive recognition in my hometown for a project undertaken in my new home city. "Façades", which was inspired by, developed and released in Barcelona back in November, earned a silver for best design in illustration at the Adobo Design Awards, held in Manila on March 28.

The awards show counts five gold, 14 silver and 42 bronze winners across 14 categories, and boasts a jury headed by Lucille Lozada Tenazas, Associate Dean at Parsons' School of Art, Media and Technology. Other wins in the illustration category include silver awards for TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno's "Pad Paper" and "Tree Lungs", another silver for Daryl Feril's "Passage to Paradise", as well as bronze awards for Alyssa J. De Asis' "Festival of Colors" and Campaigns and Grey's "Rubber Cut".

See the full list of winners on adobodesignawards.com and stroll through the illustrated façades of Passeig de Gràcia on www.paseodegracia.com

I can't be happier to have a favorite project also turn out to be a well-received one. Many thanks to everyone who made this possible and congratulations to all the winners!

As if it weren't already obvious how much my new city inspires me, these illustrations perhaps set it in stone. Façades Tell a Story is a series of animated GIF illustrations for Passeig de Gràcia Magazine. The series features some iconic façades lining Barcelona's iconic boulevard, shifting the focus from the outside to the inner spaces they conceal.
